HUD’s 50% Off Lottery Homes

Did you know that HUD has something called the Good Neighbor Next Door program where qualified Law Enforcement, Firefighters, EMT’s and Teachers get 50% off of the price of certain HUD owned homes?! Well they do, and it’s called the “GNND” program. These homes are listed on HUDs website and you can find them by clicking on the tab called Buyer Type then selecting Good Neighbor Next Door. If no homes come up in your state, then currently there are none available. These homes don’t get listed very often, but when they do you better be ready to throw your hat into the pool because I think this is the best way to buy a home and save money as well as have instant equity.

This is how it works: As long as you’re a teacher, EMT, or firefighter that services the area that the home is located, you can submit an offer to buy the home. There is no price negotiation and you (and your spouse) cannot have owned a home in the past 12 months. If you’re in Law Enforcement then the home can be anywhere, and you should still be able to make the offer to buy.
